Kendall DavenportKendall was born into a family of poets, writers, and musicians. His French-English heritage gives him passion, sensitivity, and a flair for perfectionism. While receiving his fine arts and graphics education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, Kendall was honored with the Presidential Award for Best Art.
After four years of art school, he had in his mind and heart, a desire to paint nature in its wonderful real detail. He tried traditional mediums but couldn’t create all that he wanted to express. He felt that possibly there could be a way with a new painting medium that would involved the use of Adobe Photoshop. He spent three years of intense struggle to find a way to get beyond (the textbook techniques of Adobe Photoshop) to create and develop his own fine art painting tools that are far beyond Photoshop’s original purpose. With these tools it became possible for him to paint beautiful paintings of nature and the temples with incredible detail and feelings, using the fine art principles of the masters with the technology of today.
He loved painting panoramic landscapes and then felt a desire to paint the temple in a panoramic setting. His tenth painting, and first temple painting, was the Idaho Falls temple with a beautiful gold sunset, which feels like faith, power, and second coming. He named the painting “Come Unto Me And I Will Give You Rest” The feeling he wanted to portray the most was having the viewer feel like they were standing at the temple steps, feeling the Savior’s invitation to enter the temple and find the peace and love that is there. He asked his daughter, Melinda Lawrence, to help him write some pros that he could put with his temple painting to express his feelings for the temple:
As you ascend these sacred steps and enter this place of holiness,
cast aside your earthly cares and lay your worrisome burdens at His feet.
Here in His house you will find refuge from the tormenting winds of
temptation and the withering heat of worldly pressures.
As you immerse your soul in His peace, your heart will be filled from
living fountains of pure waters, and as mortality gently fades,
you will, for a moment, embrace the riches of eternity.
These words are placed with each temple painting that he sends out. He hopes his paintings will help to draw your family to the temple and to eternal life together.
